Keep your fingers crossed but it looks like the worst of this hot summer may be over. The last few days have been better for the fish and the fishermen. With highs in the high 80’s and low 90’s it has made the days on the water much better. The cooler weather and increased generation have improved the fishing and the overall health of the trout.
There has been a good blue winged olive hatch starting about 1:00 pm and the fish have been active. Rainbows mostly, but once in a while a brown will surprise you. The fish are taking small nymphs such as size 16 or 18 pheasant tails or size 20 midge pupas. Also small, size 18 or 20, emergers are taking some fish. The low, clear water requires better presentation and small tippet. The morning fishing has been good using sow bugs and small nymphs.
The annual river cleanup will be sponsored by Trout Unlimited on September 8th at Lobo Resort. Please come join us for a morning to help the river. Check in at Lobo at 8:00 am and get an area assignment and trash bags and return all litter to this site. If you live on the river and want to work your section, that’s great, just bring your litter to Lobo and join us for hot dogs and hamburgers furnished at noon after the cleanup. Bring your boat if you have one; if not we’ll partner you with someone with a boat or direct you to an area that you can participate without a boat.
Good Fishing!!
