A good day on the river…… I had one of the best days I have had lately, catching a good number of rainbows and several nice browns.  I am still not seeing any redds on the shoals but the 14 to 17 inch browns were more active today.  It seems that the brown spawn is running late again this year.  We caught most of the browns on sow bugs and size 20 midge pupas.
There was a good blue winged olive hatch today starting about noon and the fish were very active.  With the river very low and clear, small tippet and small flies were the best combination.  Wade fishing in the morning produced several browns and then we drifted in afternoon catching some nice rainbows and a few more browns.

The river r
emains extremely low and with mild temperatures the amount of generation will probably remain the same.  This could be having some effect on the brown spawn since the shoals are very shallow.  Maybe with colder temps and a little generation, the browns will start appearing in their familiar spots.

Since the weather and the browns are running a little late, December is shaping up to be a good fishing month.  The rainbows are in great shape and full of fight.   I still have some dates open in December, so if a winter trip is on your mind, give me a call or email and we’ll make it happen.

Winter rainbows are beautiful and this one is really showing off.

Happy Thanksgiving to all !!!
