Sometimes in the summer months fishing reports don’t change much and so I have been busy guiding and let time slip by without posting for a few days. (Best excuse I could come up with!!) The river is in good shape with daily afternoon generation of about 5 to 6 hours during the week and a couple of hours each day on the weekends. This is keeping the fish active and the water temperature good for the trout. The fishing has been good, with above average rainbows and a few good browns. Fishermen are able to wade most shoals at some time during the day according to the generation schedule. One should check with the schedule and plan to move downstream as the generation arrives at the upper shoals. (Links can be found for the generation schedule on this website by clicking on the predicted generation schedule link on the left menu on the home page.) Times to allow for the generation to arrive at these locations are approximately as follows:
Cow Shoals………………. 1 to 1 ½ hours………….. (2 generators)
Winkley Shoal……………3 ½ hours to 4 hours….. (2 generators)
Libby Shoal………………..5 hours……………………… (2 generators)
Mossy Shoal…………....6 hours………………………..( 2 generators)
Pangburn Shoal…………7 hours………………………. (2 generators)
These times are approximate due to amount of water in river from previous generations.
The fishing has been good and with the upcoming forecast for temperatures in the 80’s late next week and the following week and rain showers, the river should remain in good shape with about the same generation pattern. Local heavy thunderstorms could muddy the river, but this should clear with the next generation.
This has been a great fishing year on the Little Red and you should take advantage of the mild temperatures during the last of July and first of August. I have some open dates during this time so give me a call at 501-690-9166 and reserve a day to enjoy this beautiful river. I can’t think of a better way to enjoy your summer. I look forward to fishing with you!!
Good Fishing!!
