I hope everyone had a good holiday season. My wife and I enjoyed Christmas with our family. This was the first Christmas in some time that we were able to have dinner and visit with my two older sons, their wives and my youngest son and his girlfriend. It was a great evening having them all together.
The river is in good shape again after the heavy rain two weeks ago. I actually had one of my better trips the Sunday after the rain. With the river high and muddy from over 3 inches of rain on Saturday, I had a couple from Missouri that was here and wanted to fish. I told them I would drive up to the dam and check the water. I found that the water had cleared right below the dam and thru the park which meant we could wade fish in the park and drift below the power line. We had a great day with the lady catching a 23 inch male rainbow with a 14 ½ inch girth and both catching several nice browns. I am guessing that the water was muddy in this area on Saturday and the fish were feeding heavy in the clearing water.
The lake rose into the flood pool after the rain and the generation has been on the high side during the last couple of weeks. It has now returned to normal and the generation has returned to power demand only. The river has cleared and fishing should be good after this cold wave has passed. When the weather warms, barring any large rain events, the generation should be reduced allowing wading access on the shoals.
There are still hen browns being caught that are carrying eggs, so the spawn is not completely over and rainbows are still on the shoals in good numbers. Give me a call to check the river level and book a trip when the warmer weather returns.
Good Fishing!!
