Update: 5-28-2014...... The Corp has informed me that there will be an increase in generation over the next few days to full generation 24/7 until the lake returns to normal. Hopefully this will be done by the second week of June.
Being tired is sometimes a good thing. After being on the river every day for over a week, I’m tired, but happy. Seeing old friends and meeting new friends has made this time special. All my clients have had good fishing days during this time which has been great. The weather and the fish really co-operated to make all have good days on the river. Success on a tail water river can be fishing the right section of the river at the right time and with this being the case the last few days, I have been fortunate enough to choose these areas. A lot of fish, big fish and a good time, what else could a guide ask?
The windows during the generation made moving to different areas during the day mandatory on some days and just picking the right section and staying with the falling water the key on others. Caddis, march browns, sulphurs, blue winged olives and midges are all hatching during the day, mostly in the late mornings and afternoons. after the fog burns off the river. Emergers and nymphs have been the best fly choices. The fish don’t seem to be attracted to the adult flies as well as those in the water column.
The river is clear and generation has been from 10:00 or 11:00 am to 10:00 pm. The lake level is 465.95 and falling, which is about 3 feet high. As long as the White River levels continue to regulate the release at Greers Ferry, the fishing will continue to be good on the river, but these levels are falling so an increase in generation is possible in the next few days. It would be best to check the generation schedule for a trip during the next few days.
June is looking good for the Little Red, so if a fishing trip has been on your mind, now is a good time to book that trip!! An email or call to greg.seaton@littleredflyfishingtrips.com or a call to 501-690-9166 will reserve a date for that trip.
Good Fishing!!
