The rain during the last few days has been mostly south of the lake so the generation is dropping the lake about .25 foot a day. At this rate the lake should be back to normal in about 7 to 8 days. The river is clear but high with 2 generators running about 22 hours a day. Hopefully by the weekend we will see some reduction in the generation. The Corp of Engineers told me this morning they were trying to get the lake within 1 foot of normal by Thursday and then they would probably cut back to a 12 hour generation period in the afternoon and evening hours until the lake returned to the normal 462.54 level.
Until the river returns to lower levels, please be careful if you decide to venture out. The river is a completely different place during high water and should be treated with the upmost respect. A couple of things to remember are: 1) Don’t approach docks with a boat on the upstream side since this can result in the boat being pinned against the dock and capsizing. 2) Don’t let your boat drift sideways against a log or other debris in the river since this can also capsize your boat. 3) Don’t anchor in swift water during generation. These accidents can happen faster than you would imagine. The best way to drift and fish high water is to have one person watching the boat’s course while the other fishes. A guide or someone familiar with the river is a good idea when fishing high water.
Good Fishing!!
