The heavy rains are still going around the Little Red River and staying south of the lake so the river remains clear with afternoon and early evening generation starting about 1:00 pm and ending about 7:00 pm. This is great for this time of the year, keeping our river cold and allowing wade fishing on all sections of the river by timing your arrival with the generation schedule.
The blue winged olives are hatching from mid-day to about 4:00 pm. This seems to be the most active feeding period. Small midge pupas, mayfly nymphs and small soft hackles are all good choices. Light tippet (6x) helps in the clear water from the dam to Mossy Shoal. The lower river is not quite so clear and larger flies and tippet will work.
The cooler than normal July weather is great for fishing so come enjoy the river.
Good Fishing!!
