The headline might read “Strange Weather in Arkansas”.   I cannot remember a July that has been this cool and pleasant.  The river is in great shape, clear with low water conditions.  They are generating in the afternoons for about 5 to 6 hours.  This is keeping the water cold and the trout happy.  I have been on the river a lot lately and the fishing has been great.

Good size rainbows have been the main attraction with a good brown or two adding icing on the cake.  There has been a good blue winged olive hatch in the afternoons between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm.   I am also seeing other mayflies hatching on the lower river.  Midge pupas, blue winged olive emergers, mayfly nymphs and mayfly emergers have all been producing fish.

The brown below was caught today by a first time fly fisher.  Bob had a good day catching rainbows and this 20” brown made his day.

Good Fishing!!
