The river has been fishing better than expected with all the rain.  The river was dingy below Sulphur Creek today but was clear from the dam to Winkley Shoal.  Midges and sow bugs are producing in the clearer water close to the dam and larger flies such as fox squirrel nymphs, hare’s ear nymphs and San Juan worms are my choices in the dingy water.  In the last couple of days I have seen some caddis and March Brown’s coming off from mid to the lower river.
All depends on the amount of rain we get in the next few days since the rivers below the Little Red are all high and generation releases are being held back to prevent flooding in these areas. The Corp informed me that the same generation schedule would most likely remain in place throughout the Memorial Day weekend.  One would be wise to check daily generation schedules before planning your fishing trips.  If the river remains clear to Winkley Shoal there may be wading available in the upper part of the river in the morning and early afternoon when they delay starting generation until 11:00 am.
Wishing you a safe and fun Memorial Day!!
