Sulphur mayflies were hatching over Memorial weekend but that seemed to have come to a halt. Blue Winged Olives are now hatching and this afternoon the trout were rising to the hatch. It could be that the Sulphurs like a little cooler, cloudy weather and the Blue Winged Olives like the sun and heat. With the forecast for sunny, hot weather thru Saturday, look for the small mayflies. The river is clear and the water temp is good due to the daily generation. Small mayfly nymphs, pheasant tail nymphs and emergers and midge pupas should be good choices. Size 18 and 20’s will be a close size match.
Looks like summer is here! Afternoon generation should continue this week due to the heat. This can change because of increased demand or mechanical problems so it’s always best to check the forecasted generation before planning your trip.
