The Corp of Engineers requested that the Greers Ferry spillway gates be used to supplement turbine release on the Little Red River.  The flow is 6200 cfs from the two generators with an additional 2400 cfs thru the spillway gates for a total of 8600 cubic feet per second. This adds an additional 1 ½ feet to the normal 2 unit generation.  This is due to the 3 inches of rain last Thursday and Friday which caused the lake to rise to 464.3 which is 2 feet into the flood pool.  By using the spillway gates along with the generators, Monday thru Friday, hopefully the lake level will be low enough Saturday to go back to the 12 hour-2 unit release that we were having before the rain.  With this type of release there should be windows to fish.  Check the generation forecast on Friday afternoon for the weekend to see if the reduction in generation takes place.

Please remember the brown trout spawn is still underway and avoid wading thru the redds.  You are helping to insure a continued good population of brown trout in the Little Red River.

Watch in the upcoming weeks for information on the free fly-fishing class I offer in Heber Springs.  The class meets once a week in the evening for 4 weeks the last two weeks of February and first 2 weeks in March.  Hope you can plan on attending.

Wishing all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!
