The Corp of Engineers has informed me that due to one generator going down yesterday, the generation schedule will change to one unit plus about 500 to 700 cfs from the floodgates running 24/7 thru the weekend.  This will make the flow approximately 3500 cfs over the weekend. The projection is to increase to approximately 5000 cfs on Monday, increasing to approximately 7000 cfs by Tuesday if the second generator is back on line and continuing 24/7 until the lake returns to the normal level of 462.5. The lake level is now 466.95.
Based on this forecast, the river will be high thru the 4th of July weekend.  Please use extra caution when on the river with the higher water and faster current.  Small craft such as canoes and kayaks should avoid the river unless you are experienced in handling your craft in swift water.  Avoid docks and other obstacles such as logs, limbs and trees extending into the water since drifting against these will cause your craft to be sucked under with you aboard. All other boats should also be cautious since this current can also swamp larger boats if caught upstream of an obstruction. Respect the river and have a safe trip.
If there are any changes in this forecast, I will try to post them next week.  It is always wise to check the Corps next day forecast before planning your trip. The app for your phone is USACE Little Rock. Click on SWPA Forecast for the next day forecast and Releases for current generation. These times and amounts of generation are subject to change so be aware of changing conditions on the river.
