Well, my rain gear still works. I fished yesterday in the rain for the first time in a long while. Our area received a good soaking rain without any runoff. The river remains clear and low with no generation. The rain did not raise the lake level so generation will probably remain at a minimum.
The brown spawn is still on hold. A few browns are being taken but not on a consistent basis. The shoals are still very shallow and the fish seem reluctant to move up on these low water conditions. We had a little generation last Friday evening and this produced some action on the browns on Saturday but seemed short lived. The rainbows are still biting well with some nice rainbows being caught. I think there are more rainbows in the spawning mode than browns. Red Ass, Fox Squirrel Nymphs and midge pupas seem to be good flies for the rainbows as well as the browns. No redds, so the egg pattern does not seem to be working that well.
There was a good blue winged olive hatch on Sunday afternoon and the fish were keying on them. A good midge hatch is still common on most days.
Good Fishing!!
