My guide trip last Monday started at Dripping Springs because they started generating at 6:00 am in the morning.  The water was low because of no generation all weekend and the water was a little dingy.  I’m not sure why.  We started catching fish at the first stop and caught a lot of rainbows and one nice brown.  The fish were taking midge pupas.  The bite was good all morning until about 11:30.  We had lunch and loaded the boat and went to Barnett Access because the generation had stopped at 9:00 am and the water was falling.  The water was clear and we motored to Ritchie Shoal and drift fished back to the bridge.   The rainbows bit good and we had a good day.

The rest of the week I was busy with Trout Unlimited business and didn’t get to fish until today when I waded at the dam this afternoon.  After morning generation the water was in good shape this afternoon.  I had a good day catching rainbows with a couple of nice 15 to 16 inch fish.  The bite started about 3:00 pm and they were taking small midges (size 20 and 22’s).

The schedule shows about 3 hours of generation in the early morning and about the same at 7:00 pm.  This will allow wade fishing in the afternoon at the dam and at Winkley Shoal in the morning until about 9:30 and then again in the late afternoon.  Weather will be cooler this weekend with a chance of rain on Saturday.  If we don’t get too much rain on Saturday the river should be in good shape all weekend.
