When fishing a caddis pupa or emerger under an indicator, be sure to make upstream mends as you make your drift.  This corrects the drift and also causes the fly to slightly rise to the surface each time you mend giving the illusion that your fly is emerging.  A small tug toward you near the end of the drift gives this same illusion.  These small adjustments can make a difference since they trigger a strike instinct in the trout.
